Taal acting up — Phivolcs
Comments(0)TAAL Volcano in Batangas has been acting up, with 29 volcanic earthquakes recorded over a 24-hour period from Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
A September 26 advisory posted on the Phivolcs web site on Wednesday said the seismic activity shown by Taal “is notably higher than the usual levels, which is generally only five or less events” over a 24-hour period during the volcano’s quiet spells.
But the agency added that this “increase in seismicity at Taal Volcano reflects a low-level episode of unrest” and did not indicate “an impending eruption.”
The quakes, recorded by the Taal Main Crater Seismic Station, included five that occurred between 2:33 to 2:49 a.m. on Tuesday and “were felt at intensities II to III by residents on Volcano Island.”
“These quakes were accompanied by rumbling sounds,” the Phivolcs advisory said.
It said possible precursors of an explosion, “such as increased steam emission, increased temperatures of steam vents and other changes” continued to be monitored.
It also recommended “appropriate vigilance by the public when visiting the island” and that the main crater area remain “off limits because sudden steam explosions may occur or high concentrations of toxic gases may accumulate.”
“There are also several fissures traversing the Daang Kastila Trail which, when reactivated with steam emission, are also potentially hazardous to people,” the advisory added.

The provinces where there will be no classes are Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna and Bulacan.
In a television interview, Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said classes might also be suspended on Friday depending on the weather conditions.
The Office of Civil Defense said Milenyo, which blew through the Visayas and Bicol regions Wednesday, had left some 3,400 passengers stranded in various seaports.

Rants
this thing is shit. i got deadlines and i’m dead.
first off is my thesis. we just had an exam last monday and i’m worried my thesis adviser won’t bite what i wrote on those bluebooks. the exam was fairly elementary but since we are such great thesis researchers, we came up with nothing substantial. just flatulence.
second at-bat belongs to my feasibility study. we can’t have a quorum for our meetings and our time is really running out. talk about tight schedules and everyone has ‘em. everyone has to prepare for an exam and for another group project. our feasibility study is way out their priorities and that leaves me, to worry about things i can’t handle all by myself.
on the homestretch is our financial statements whiz. we still haven’t computed for our financial ratios and that’s due up tomorrow.

Batangas City | History 101
Spanish missionaries first set foot in Batangas City in 1572. The settlement was founded in 1581 and named “Batangan” because of the numerous big logs that abounded the Calumpang River. The logs were called “batang” by the natives who settled near the river and called the settlement “Batangan”. This name was modified and became Batangas in 1601. Don Agustin Casilao was appointed as the first Gobernadorcillo. Since 1754, the city has been the capital and administrative center of the province. Batangas became a city in 1969 through Republic Act. No. 5495.
The following dates marked the significant events/activities which shaped the growth and development of Batangas City.
